We’ve had a variety of visitors recently arrive to our lab group for the spring. There were ten of us at lunch yesterday, with conversations in five concurrent languages. In summary, it was a little crazed. I drew up an Euler diagram to keep track of what languages people (denoted by their initials) were speaking:

I think this helps to explain a lot of the difficulties of the European Union.
